It's been a while since I've posted here so I thought I'd make a thread in here. Over the past couple months I've been super busy getting ready to achieve on of my dreams, to play professional soccer. I left New York City at the end of July and moved back to the Bay Area for a month in order to prepare myself physically and mentally for my tryouts. In the middle of September I left the US to fly to Brazil to live with my agent. I'm currently in Sao Paulo, training getting used to things here in Brazill. I have three tryouts lined up so far with Corinthians, Palmeras, and Sao Paulo, the first of which will take place at the end of October. These are three of the biggest clubs here in Brazil, and if I make one of these teams it would be an amazing place to start my career. If I don't make it onto one of these teams, there are a couple of 2nd division teams that can try out for as well, so I'm hoping that I'll be staying in Brazil for a long time

I have a bit of free time in between my training sessions so I'm going to try to post on here as much as possible, I've definitely missed the FLD community over these past couple of months.

Awesome news man! Can I ask why you left the States to go to Brazil for tryouts? I'm just asking cuz the MLS would also be a great place to start a career these days.

Good luck man, you're trying out for some of the most prestigious clubs in South America and with the talent down there it wont be easy!

The MLS would be a great start for my career, yes, but the MLS works a bit differently. They have a draft, like with all the other American leagues, and if you don't go to a D1 college it's almost impossible to get drafted. I could've made a reserve team in the MLS, but I figured I'd gain a lot more experience if I played abroad. Soccer's very competitive here in Brazil, but they aren't known for their goalkeepers, and me being 6'7" gives me a huge advantage. Also, a lot of these clubs are looking to expand into foreign markets, and having an English speaking player is definitely a plus. I have my work cut out for me, but my agent is saying I have a good shot at getting a spot on one of the 1st division teams, so I'm going for it.

Ahh, I didn't know the US had it setup like that, makes sense though as that's pretty much how all there pro league's are.

Also didn't know you were a goalie so that is a HUGE plus IMO, like ya said there not known for there goalie's there.

I wish ya all the best though cuz there known for there strikers and with the brand of football they play in Brazil you're gonna be a busy man!!

Thanks dude. Yea, if I wasn't a gk it'd be near impossible to make it down here. I think the only American to play here was Cobi Jones, and he only played a couple of games for Vasco da Gama before he was axed.

Fucking hell, that should be a great experience in itself.

Do you know if you'll be training with the first team at all, or just in the reserves?

I know from people that have had tryouts over here that it's usually the reserves, but they sometimes throw a couple of experienced first teamers in there as well just to see how players cope with them. Not sure how things work in Brazil though.

TBH I have no idea. Ronaldo hasn't been starting and is way out of shape, so maybe he's training with the reserves.

Brazil has definitely had some good goalkeepers, but only in the past 20-30 years or so. There is still a national sentiment here that their goalkeepers aren't up to par with the rest of the world.

The keeper for Sao Paulo is Rogerio Ceni. We actually have a good connection with him in our agency, and I'm getting my trial there through him. exciting stuff.

Good Luck fella.

Dude, it's amazing here. I'm in a very middle class part of Sao Paulo so there aren't as many young people here, but still the majority of the women here have sufficient junk in their trunk. And the girls my age, hawt damn. I'm supposed to go out to a bar on my birthday with a couple of the guys with the agency, so hopefully i'll get my first encounter with the infamous Brazilian bubble booty

Wow!

I can't believe you're in Brazil about to try out for a pro team. I never even knew you played soccer/futbol. I played for like 15 years and it was always one of my dreams to play it in college or for a semi-pro/pro team or at least take it past the HS level but I ended up ruining my knees wrestling and I'm at the point where I can barely run without being in extreme pain so there's no way I'd ever be able to play the sport again, even in a men's league for fun.

Just like Plazz I envy you so much. I was actually a goalie for the majority of the time I played so I can kind of relate to you in that sense.

I honestly wish you the best of luck man and if you've already made it as far as you have I have no doubt that you'll end up making one of those 3 teams you're trying out for. Don't forget to keep us updated as I'm personally really interested in your tryout's and future career. It'll be awesome to say I know someone that played pro ball, even if we only know each other from the internet and haven't actually ever talked that much.

Good luck bro I know you'll do great!! Make FLD proud!

Speaking of making FLD proud.

After watching how the polish people do MMA. I think it would be appropriate if PN got a large FLD tat on his head or face. I'd say arm, but being a goalkeeper his arms prob won't be very visible. And PN's club prob wouldn't want another add on his jersey or shorts, so yeah face tattoo would do it.

Thanks a lot dude, I appreciate it. I had no idea you used to play too and that you were a keeper, it's a shame that you can't play anymore. Knee injuries are one of my biggest fears, so far I've been lucky and have only had shoulder problems. What exactly did you do to your knees?

Yeah man I was one of the best keepers in my area and played all the way up until HS when I switched to striker (which I also played when I wasn't playing keeper or mid and was pretty damn good at as well) or mid (occasionally) since my HS team already had a ton of keepers and instead of riding the bench for 3 years I figured I'd just tell them I was a stiker/mid instead of a keeper so I'd have a better chance of getting more play time, which actually worked out pretty well lol.

I hurt my knees wrestling and playing catcher in baseball. Playing catcher kind of damaged them from having to constantly squat and then wrestling just completely ruined them and finished them off. When you wrestle your knees take a constant beating from always shooting in on them and landing on them trying to get someone else's leg, or landing on them when someone throws you or drops you, or when someone has your leg and it's twisted in a weird position from trying to escape, as well as being on top of a guy and using top pressure with your knees to keep them pinned down so that they can't stand back up and get a point as well as pretty much every other move involved in wrestling takes a toll on your knees.

I ended up developing a few knee problems. One of them was that I tore my ACL, which I had surgery on in the summer of 2007, and during that surgery they also learned that from the repeated blows my knees took I developed a condition (don't know the name of it but it's in both knees) where the ligament that connects from my hip bone to the side of my knee cap is incredibly tight and causes my knee cap to be pulled off to the side, causing a ton of pain around my knee and the knee cap.

So while they were in there fixing the ACL they also did what's called a Lateral Release to fix the other problem, which involves making a ton of little incisions all along the ligament from my hip to my knee cap to release the tension caused by it and hopefully have pieces of ligament grow back between the cuts so that it would be a solid piece of ligament eventually that was no longer really tight and pulling on my knee causing the knee cap to be pulled towards the outside of my leg. If the surgery worked then the cuts would relieve the pressure and everything would be all good.

Unfortunately, the surgery didn't work at all and I still have constant and daily, excruciating knee pain. After suffering from the pain for awhile I went back to the guy that did the surgery and said how it still hurt and the other knee had the same problem and he basically told me there was nothing else he could do since it didn't work and it made no sense to do it to the other knee since it didn't work on the right knee. He pretty much washed his hands of me, made his money from my like 6 appointments and the surgery, and then told me he couldn't help me anymore.

After that I went to a guy that my mom used to visit for her knees, since she has 2 blown out knees, a missing knee cap, and even worse problems then I have so she took me to this doctor she saw a couple of years ago and he diagnosed that it was a knee cap problem and not a ligament or tendon problem and since he didn't specialize in knee caps he recommended me to another doctor in his group, who my mom's seen before and who is actually the guy that removed her knee cap in hopes that it would help her pain/problems. This brings me to the current day and right now I'm just waiting to get into the knee cap specialist to see what's wrong with my knee for sure finally after all of these years (it's been like 5 - 8 years or so total that I've been dealing with knee pain) but he's booked for like the next 3 months so I just have to wait. In the meantime I'm in constant pain everyday from my knees. Oh and to top it all off I also herniated one of the disks in my back wrestling from being dropped from about 6 feet up the wrong way and just landed in a contorted position instead of being brought down safely by the guy I was wrestling against like you're supposed to do and the rules say you're supposed to do. So basically that's why my body is so fucked up and I can't play sports anymore and can barely even exercise without being in excruciating pain.

man, that sounds awful man. I dislocated my kneecap once after getting cleated on a breakaway, but either than that my knees have been pretty healthy *knocks on wood*. Knee injuries scare the hell out of me, I'd shit bricks if I ever tore my acl. It's a damn shame that your surgeries didn't help, your surgeon sounds like a complete dick.
