Just saw this very sad news.....from MJB23 facebook. Apparently he passed away this weekend.

"To All Matt's friends and family, Thank You all for your kind and thoughtful words about Matt. It truly wasn't fair that Matt was taken from us so soon. He had so much to offer everyone. Just know that each an everyone touched Matt in a special way. Matt loved all his friends and family with his life. He never went a day without taking about one of his friends."

I'm in shock.

Here is MJ's obituary.

Obituaries

Mathew Jacob Bishel, 22, of Colchester, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (March 24, 2011) at home.

Born March 1, 1989 in Middletown, he was the son of Keith and Lisa (Desnoyers) Bishel of Colchester.

He was a 2007 graduate of Bacon Academy in Colchester, where he was active with the Wrestling and Soccer teams, as he loved all types of sports. Matt was currently finishing his Biology degree at ECSU and would have graduated in May of 2011.

He also enjoyed fishing and was a talented marksman. However, Matt will be remembered most for his vibrance, both in the way that he lived life to its fullest and loved his family and friends so very much.

In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by his sister, Danielle of Colchester; his grandparents, Art and Pat Bishel of Colchester and Roland and Kathy Desnoyers of Chester; and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandmother, Elizabeth Bishel; and a cousin, Philip Coulombe.

Friends may call 5 - 8 PM Wednesday at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 AM Thursday directly at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Avenue, Colchester. Interment will follow in the Bishel family plot in the Westchester Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Bacon Academy Wrestling Team, 611 Norwich Avenue, Colchester 06415.

I've had several friends/acquaintances die this last year all between 23-27, fuckin sad to think about and as a new parent find it unimaginable to have to lose your child.

Just a thought, but does somebody want to write some kind of FLD obituary for him, detailing his history with and impact on the forum and the members? We could all sign it and send it to his family or something?

I'm not sure who really knew him the best or was the closest to him? Plazz maybe? Steph?

I dunno, might be a nice touch.

Fuck, I'm still so shocked at this, I was just arguing with him the other day. I have no idea what his family are going through right now.

Same here. But at the end of the day, the reason we stir emotions from each other is because we've all grown close to each other. If we didn't care, we'd just ignore them right? It's a testament to the friendships we've built here that we can argue and still remain friends to one another. Eventhough we've never met, it seems like we know each other very well. I second the FLD obituary.

I don't know if what I said made sense.

I'm not only shocked, but extremely saddened by this. Matt was one of my best friends on this site, and I just can't believe he's gone.

Despite all the bumps along the way, I always consider a good person. He gave so much to this place and his friends.

I have the package he sent me with all the autographed memorabilia sitting in my room still :(

I may have never met him, but I feel I got pretty close with him. Especially constantly battling eachother in GFX comps, facebook, MSN, and modding and building MMF n FLD.

He will be forever missed, and always remembered.

Rest in Peace Matt

PS: once I get my computer back, I think a small "RIP MJB" would be nice at the bottom of the forum

Wow, some sad shit. Its weird I never really think that Ive shot the shit with some of you for 5 years now. You could always tell one thing that was very apparent about MJB was that he was an extremely passionate person whatever it came to. In the end its shit like this that shows you all the petty bullshit isn't worth it and that just having the opportunity to sit on here and procrastinate is a gift in itself. This place(and the forum before it) has given me the ability to talk to people about the sport I love when literally their was no one in my life who even pretty much knew it existed(or my love for it).

I know I can be a sarcastic jerk but in the end I really do love this community and losing even a small piece of it sucks big time.

I am absolutely shocked and gutted. I feel absolutely terrible about how things went down with him and the staff..

I am going to put together a tribute article called "FightLockdown Remembers a Friend: Matt Bishel (MJB23)" and I am going to post it on his facebook page so his family can read the testimonials of people here who were touched by him. I think it they would appreciate seeing just how Matt was appreciated by people even in far away places. Please let me know if you are interested in providing some words/fond memories involving Matt, I am sure his family would be moved by how far his reach was felt.

Outside of being an active member and contributor to the site, Matt did a lot of really great and generous things around here that helped to make this community as tight as it is (like his Fan Expo thread where he sent off a lot of free shit to make people happy).

We've all pretty much known him for 5 years so it's surreal to think we'll never see him posting here again. I can't believe he's gone, but I hope that his family can pull through this awful loss. You will be missed man, rest in peace. :(

Family and friends. Without them you really have nothing.

I don't really have any heroes. I guess I would have to say my mom.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Hopefully owning my own medical practice or working for the CDC as a virologist.

Very sad news. I extend my utmost condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
Matt and I didn't always get along probably because he was so young and brash. However, no one could deny Matt's obvious passion for FLD and the generosity of his time to make it a better place.
His passing has made me realise that one of the biggest challenges in life is to constantly find the inner strength to reach out to the people around you and try to have a positive influence on their lives.

Matt's obituary from yesterday's Hartford Courant

Mathew Jacob BISHEL

BISHEL, Mathew Jacob Mathew Jacob Bishel, 22, of Colchester, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (March 24, 2011) at home. Friends may call 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m., Thursday, directly at St. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. We especially like the picture from wafb War Lentz- that would be Matt, peaking in. With everything, it's hard to check all the places that Matt was known, but we will eventually get to them all. Again, thank you for the kind words and prayers. The Bishel Family.

I had an idea..

Would it be possible for someone to make a small banner tribute to Matt that I could place in FLD articles through the backend? I think it would be a nice gesture if we could make such an image a hyperlink to the forum because Matt put a lot of time and effort into helping making this place what it is today (and it's not like there isn't a lot of space available in our published pieces).

Thoughts?

Such horrible news.

MJB always contributed to the experience I had and members like him are the reason I am here. Seemed like a great bloke.

RIP, you will be sadly missed.

What sizes?

Something this size (or maybe a little smaller if you like) would be perfect bro... I think it's 400x125?:

Damn I just saw this and I'm shocked. MJB was a good guy on these forums and I'm sure he was the same in his everyday life as well. It's very sad when someone so young passes away. Even though I have never met him in person, I still consider him a friend.

RIP MJB23

So very, very sad when someone dies young.

I hope his family and friends keep each other strong.

I don't if this belongs here or on the Tribute thread, but for those whó are not on his FB, here's a message from his family.

Matt Bishel: To fightlockdown: Thank you for all the beautiful stuff that you said about Matt. He truly was an amazing young guy who touched everyone's life he came in contact. Even though someone of you never meet him he would talk about you guys all the time. It is so hard to except, or even believe. I know that knew he had great friends and family, and they we're everything to him. Thank You for such kind words Love The Bishel Family

Today is Matt's birthday. He would have been 23 years old today. Still sad not to see him on here anymore.

Someone once told me that time heals all wounds. I can safely say it's not the case this time. Still greatly missed.
