View Full Version : Is Greg Jackson putting St. Pierre's belt ahead of everything else?
This was from an article at HKL but it brings up an interesting question/point
Is Greg Jackson putting St. Pierre's belt ahead of everything else? Georges dominance is why people talk about how great of a coach that Jackson really is. While Jackson has had success in the Light Heavyweight division with Rashad Evans becoming champion, he was unable to create a long championship run like St. Pierre. Jones has the opportunity to fix this but he'll need to run through the best of the division to become the next St. Pierre. Without Georges' belt, the Jackson camp is no different than American Top Team, a solid camp without any champions.

I don't even associate GSP with Jackson that much... he fights out of Tristar and his coach is Firas, not really Jackson.

The simple answer is absofreakinglutely.
Other things come into play though, the UFC lhw div has been a rotating door for champions mostly due to how ridiculously stacked and close everyone is in terms of skill....WW div while talented has either strong wrestlers wt meh striking or decent strikers wit meh wrestling....perfect combination for a fighter like GSP and really not difficult whatsoever to write a gameplan for.

What a dumb shit statement.

Exactly. It's crazy how much he gets over-credited for GSP's success, when he spends the majority of his training at Tristar under Zahabi, then splits the remaining between Jackson, Renzo and Roger's in London.
The same way people credited Roach for his jab against Koscheck, Zahabi taught him that, not Roach with who he didn't train that much.

GSP isn't even a Jackson's fighter. Greg just corners him and is one of the many people that help develop strategies.
Firas is his head trainer and Tristar is his main facility.
GSP trains at Jackson's/Grudge probably, max for 2 weeks over the course of a training camp.
People see Greg in the corner and assume he's in charge of shit, but it's really Firas.

Well I just wanted to make it clear seeing as I'm the head GSP nuthugger/knowledge database around these parts.
Jackson's is just everyone's favorite camp to hate right now. Its the "in" thing. Its not like Firas and Greg tell GSP to play it safe and just jab without taking any risks. I mean they coach him to fight while minimizing risk but its GSP that makes the decisions in the cage.
People put too much weight on Greg imo. I think a fighter can improve in any camp that has world class guys to train with. Cesar's camp, Jackson's, AKA, Couture's, etc are all great places.
