There are currently 81 upcoming fights, announced or rumoured under the UFC brand.
8.6% are Bantamweight Fights
14.8% are Featherweight Fights
19.7% are Lightweight Fights
20.9% are Welterweight Fights
17.2% are Middleweight Fights
11.1% are Light Heavyweight Fights
7.4% are Heavyweight Fights
What do you think of these numbers? As you'd expect, when you list the divisions out, the percentages start low, peak in the middle, then go low again.
The WW/LW divisions are clearly the most talented divisions, thus having the highest percentage.
Should the UFC try to even them out a bit? Or should the less talented divisions like Heavyweight have a lower percentage of fights? That's 6 and 7 fights in the HW/BW divisions compared to 17 for WW. I'm not saying put more Heavyweight fights out there, just have less WW fights/fighters.
I think it's the view of most people that UFC have too many fighters under contract. Do they need 34 Welterweight fighters with upcoming fights - plus everyone else without a fight, battling it out for their top spot? That's a heck of a lot of fighters for one division.
