So I know some had asked about this series in the Currently Reading thread but wondering if anyone has read the books? I saw the American version of the first movie opening week and that it was excellent. I think I may go through and re-read the books. They were pretty excellent.

Apparently Fincher isn't jumping up and down to make the next movie so not sure if the studio will move on it with another director or wait. I know they wanted to start filming asap based on the reviews of this one.

So what did you guys think of the books and/or the movie? There were a couple of omissions in movie if I remember correctly but overall it was a very close adaptation.

The only things missed out were minor details that were not necessary. I thought the books were brilliant and the US film was o e of the best I have seen recently.

It would have been easy to pussy out of the more harrowing elements but if anything Fincher went far more extreme than I expected.

I read the trilogy and loved it. I've seen the Swedish movies but have not seen the American version yet , I'm very happy to hear that they did it well and didn't puss out.

Just blitzed through the first book and watched the swedish film last night right after finishing the read. I thought the book was great but the film wasn't anything special, though having just closed the novel most details were pretty fresh so its easy to be critical. Also, i was pretty tired of reading so subtitles...so yeah.
Looking forward to watching the new film, and gonna pick up the other books sometime soon

Books are better than movies as is the case 99% of the time. I enjoyed the swedish movie but actually thought the US version was better and closer to the books. I didn't watch the movies right after books though so can't say exact.
