It appears that welterweight Frank Lester has run out of chances to land a spot on the roster of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Sources informed FiveOuncesOfPain.com late Wednesday night that the Team Quest product received his formal release from the UFC shortly after losing via first round submission to Nick Osipczak during this past Saturday’s live finale for the ninth season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Lester qualified for TUF 9 as a member of Dan Henderson’s U.S. team after recording a first round TKO against Kiel Reid. However, he was eliminated from the competition in episode six after being submitted by James Wilks, the show’s eventual welterweight winner, following an armbar at 3:06 of round 2.

He would be given a second chance to advance in the competition after UFC President Dana White ruled that Jason Pierce would not be allowed to continue in the competition. Facing Dave Faulkner from the Team UK, Lester fought well and forced a third and final round. Lester advanced to the next stage of the competition after Faulkner was too tired to compete in the “sudden victory” portion of the fight.

Lester would once again face Wilks in the semifinals. For the second fight in a row, Lester forced a fight to go to “sudden victory” but he would not be as fortunate as he was against Faulkner after getting TKO’d by Wilks due to knees.

This makes perfect sense to me. The guy was a bad fighter to be honest tons of heart but heart alone can't keep you in the UFC.

Lester seems like a great guy but he never belonged in the UFC and the fact he made the semifinals of TUF tells you how bad TUF 9 was.

Meh, he annoyed me to be honest and was pretty piss-poor when it came to technique.

Wasn't he the guy who promised to knock some of Wilks' teeth out?.

He definitely needs to work on technique a lot.

Not surprising. I think he definitely earned at least one fight in the UFC just from the amount of heart he showed on the show.

That said definitely not surprised it was one and done.

I'm going to be an ass by saying this but I'm glad he got cut. He was not a very skilled fighter and he would do better at smaller shows.

I don't want another Ross Pointon fiasco again.

This is going to happen to pretty much everybody from this season of TUF, winners included.

I agree. This was not a talent rich season by any stretch.

Yeah he was prob in the middle to bottom as far as talent level on this years TUF and well this was prob the weakest TUF yet.

He had heart, but so did Rudy. Rudy played a snap for Notre dame and Lester had his 15 minutes of fame. Well like 10 i guess.

Like someone else said I think they owed it to him to give him a fight in the UFC after he stepped up on the show but he really didnt belong so not a suprise to anyone I think
