This is kinda addressed on the main page of the site....but if he loses to Chuck...what will happen with him?
I think if he loses and looks mediocore - poor....he'll be forced to renegotiate and he'll turn down a lower bid to fight....and go fight for someone else.

He is in the Cro Cop situation of signing for big money but failing to deliver anywhere near to the level that is expected of him. Unless he looks awesome against chuck then he will have to renegotiate, at which point he will join his brother fighting in DREAM.

Yea if Shogun loses, I bet he will wind up fighting in Japan and maybe Affliction if it is able to last. The UFC is paying him alot of money and if he can't deliver they won't continue paying him like a superstar.
Outside of hardcore MMA fans Shogun is not well known to the American public, If he can't beat top guys than his stint in the UFC will be short.

This fight for shogun is monumental in terms of his career as a whole a win, he beats argubaly the best known fighter in the US and he will finally get some exposure to the casual fans who dont really know who he is and if he is convincing in victory i believe he will get a major push towards a ufc title shot, but if he were to lose(which i hope dosent happen) as one of you sed i think he will follow cro cop in returning to japan and fighting for dream and trying to rebuild a tarnished reputation, but all us shogun fans know he is going to win and win well WAR Shogun!!!

If he loses against Chuck, I see potential for him to get cut. I bet he will end up with Affliction eventually.
Sadly if he loses and looks crappy doing it, I see him taking a pay cut. I'm not sure if he'll leave the UFC but you never know.

yea, i agree with everyone here in thinking that shogun will take a paycut if he loses. i could see him in dream or affliction, there would be some decent match ups for him there. shogun vs sokky? babalu? king mo?

Agree with what's said if he loses i think UFC will want to his contract and he will turn it down and go fight in Japan again.

WHEN he losses to Chuck he will recive a paycut and maybe be cut if he has another poor performance in the UFC after UFC 97.
On the main page I said he would only be cut if he looked crappy but I can definitely see him turning down a re-negotiated contract and returning to Dream. That sucks too because I see him losing this fight but I really want him to return to form and stay in the UFC.

I'm not sure he can return to that form, and i'm skeptical that he can do so in the UFC. The UFC rules aren't what he's used too, 1/4 of his stops in Pride came from soccer kicks, so one of his high percentage finishing moves is illegal.

I dont think the UFC would cut him even if he loses because a lot of fans just LOVE the guy and he is a nice addition to an already stacked card.
Shogun has all the tools to become great again and once his cardio is back where it should, he's going to destroy people left and right. He wont be able to use soccer kicks but I think he will become very good with the elbows.
The UFC would prolly want to renegociate his contract, (understandable) and I dont think Shogun would want to leave the UFC with a 1-2 record with his sole win coming over a washed up coleman. He has a lot of talent, is still pretty young and will comeback from his lackluster performances.
Lets not forget he WON his last fight, most people see the fight as a loss but its still a W on his record.

I disagree i don't think a lot of fans love him. A lot of true fans love him but to the casual fan he is a guy who came from Japan and lost to Forrest and then barely beat a visibly out of shape 44 year old Coleman. So IMO he isn't a huge draw at this point, and with a loss to Chuck he's just gonna be another struggling Pride fighter to most fans. You have to remember us die hard fans are WAY out numbered by guys who can only name a few UFC fighters.

But the people pumping out 45$ per PPV know a bit about the sport I would think. And shogun is a big star everywhere outside the US.
You might be right though, I tend to think of the MMA community as the people who post on forums but its way bigger than that and its true there are a lot of "fans" who watch mma because its "everything goes" fighting.

Yup the casual fan's are those who watch at bars and know little about it, or order the pay per view because they think its a no holds barred street fight. Its easy to forget that we are actually rare as far as this sport goes, hardcore fans just aren't that common yet. Thats why the Pride fighters had to almost re earn respect when they came to the UFC because most fans had never heard of them.
