Former NCAA champion Johny Hendricks has been notified by UFC officials that he will be invited join the promotion in light of Zuffa’s decision shut down the WEC’s welterweight division.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com confirmed the news Monday afternoon with Hendricks’ manager, Ted Ehrhardt of Team Takedown, who added that Hendricks has yet to sign a new UFC contract but that one is expected to be presented within the next several days.

According to Ehrhardt, an opponent and Octagon debut date for Hendricks could also be determined by week’s end.

Hendricks was an All-American wrestler while at Oklahoma State University and is 5-0 since making his pro MMA debut in September of 2007.

While competing for the WEC, Hendricks went 2-0 with wins over Justin Haskins at WEC 37 last December and Alex Serdyukov at WEC 39 earlier this month. Soon after Hendricks’ decision victory over Serdyukov, WEC officials designated the bout as the event’s “Fight of the Night.”

The 25-year old Hendricks now joins fellow OSU alum Jake Rosholt as the second member of Ehrhardt’s Team Takedown to make it to the UFC. Team Takedown’s third member, Shane Roller, competes in the WEC’s lightweight division and is 2-0 since debuting for the promotion. He is scheduled to fight Benson Henderson at WEC 40 on April 5 in Chicago, Ill.

I like Johny a lot he's a good add however I will say since I haven't seen his last two fights I'm not sure how ready he is.

Supposedly he has shown some good stand up and has shown good grappling both in his fights and out of his fights.

He beat Gilbert Melendez in grapplers quest and won the absolute division of grapplers quest which is pretty impressive.

Any addition is good imo but honestly I didnt get to see his two fights in the UFC. Hopefully his standup is much, much better than Rosholt though because his is pathetic!

Yea Hendricks knocked a guy out cold with an uppercut so it has to be better then Rosholts lol.

And he was clearly winning his last fight before he got eye poked in round 3 and had to just survive to get his 29-28 decision.

I don't know, I want to see plenty of undercard fights first.

As long as he doesn't get the completely and utterly ridiculous Jake Rosholt treatment. I'm still seriously confused by that fight everytime I think about it. I start pulling funny 'wtf faces'.

It really was some of the worst matchmaking I have ever seen.

I really like Johnny.

I think he's still young and learning but he has a bright future.

Yea to be fair Shamrock-Ortiz they tried to give him Sakara who would've gotten takedown and pounded out lol.

Yeah, they had the right idea with that one.

When Sakara pulls out though, why make the complete opposite move?

There are plenty of people who they can find to stick in there against Jake, where he can test himself in the standup for a while, if he gets bullied, he can just take them down whenever he wants. With Miller though, he has to be worried in both areas of the game.

Yea Dan Miller was kinda a bad pick. At least they didn't give him Maia, Palhares, or Almedia though lol.

Yea honestly there are a ton of guys who Jake would've actually had a chance against and the UFC kinda just made him look horrible on national TV.
