Edmonton-based welterweight fighter Ryan “The Real Deal” Ford has opted not to sign a new deal with the Maximum Fighting Championships and he will instead join the Alberta-based promotion The Fight Club.
Ford informed The Fight Network of the move on Monday.
According to Ford, he received a new contract offer from MFC President Mark Pavelich, which he was not satisfied with. Ford made a counter-offer but could not agree on terms with the promotion.
An eight-fight MFC veteran, Ford boasts an 8-2 record with both of his losses coming against IFL veteran Pat Healy.
Ford, a member of Pro Camp alongside respected UFC middleweight Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald, has notable career wins over UFC veteran Pete Spratt and Tristar Gym product Nabil Khatib.
A well-versed wrestler with knockout power, Ford has inked a multi-fight deal with the Edmonton-based promotion The Fight Club where he will compete exclusively in the province of Alberta.
In his post-MFC career, Ford wants to seek fights abroad and hopes to compete in the Quebec-based Xtreme MMA organization.
Ford wants to rack up a few wins under The Fight Club banner for an opportunity to challenge IFL veteran Claude Patrick, the promotion’s current welterweight champion.
Ford is also stepping his training up a level as he will fly out to Victoria, B.C. to train with WEC competitor and consensus top-five featherweight Wagnney Fabiano.
According to the charismatic Western-Canadian prospect, he was complimented by both Nick “The Goat” Thompson and his conqueror Healy in the aftermath of his fight against Healy at MFC 20: Destined for Greatness in February.

Even though he's lost twice to Pat Healy, Healy's no joke as a fighter. Ford is still a solid prospect, and I'm glad to see him taking training seriously and upping his level of training partner. He definitely has the ability to make it to a higher level org some day. Questions, Comments, Concerns?
