“After my contract with the UFC ends and end my career in MMA, I intend to have a boxing match with Roy Jones. That’s something that’s already been arranged, it’s all practically a done deal, Silva said. Now I just have to wait and see”.
- Anderson Silva tells Gracie Mag about his plans to face one Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match. Silva has stated repeatedly that Jones is one of his idols and he'd love to test his boxing skills against the all-time great.
Looks like it may happen but here's to hoping it's later rather than sooner. Silva's arguably the best pound-for-pound MMA fighter on the planet and due to his style and tremendous skills hasn't taking a pounding in the sport. He's a young 33 and still has a ton of great MMA fights left in him.

Once Anderson is legitimately done with MMA I wouldn't be opposed to this, but right now it's the last thing I want to see.
He said:
“After my contract with the UFC ends and end my career in MMA
So his career in MMA could last a lot longer than his contract with the UFC. So no wonder he wants to retire after his 6 fights left on his contract. They better start making super fights for him soon, give the dude a challenge. Anyone know if Anderson has that clause where he can't retire as the champ?

If he is looking forward to a big pay-day fight with RJJ, his heart may not be into mma, and this could make him much more susceptible to losing...not saying that Leites is going to be the one to do it, but someone like Marquardt or Hendo could if given another shot.
Well, boxing fans will be happy to see an mma guy lose.
Yeah, RJJ is gonna take it and take it fairly easily.
So Dana knows he wont want to sign after his six fights are done so that means Dana drags out his contract as long as possible by not offering fights just like he did with Arlovski.
They will probably use him for all he is worth through five fights and then have him sit on the bench because that is how Dana rolls

Wow sick, I would deff watch him fight Roy Jones Jr. I pretty sure, after that fight... he will come back to MMA, no one ever stays retired. :)

...why would Silva publicly announce this? He should know that Dana is going to do everything he can to totally F him over when he nears the end of his contract...

Im not a boxing fan, but i'd see this. But Anderson still has a lot to accomplish in the UFC IMO. Leites,Bisping/Hendo, Okami, Maia/Marquadt and then GSP or the LHW champ at the time (if its not Machida, which it will be)
As people have said before it is a lose lose situation. If he wins they'll say RJJ is over the hill and if he loses they'll say an over the hill boxer beat one of the best MMA strikers.
But was anyone expecting Overeem/Hari?

Man, that sucks that he is still talking about retiring from mma. I can't be too angry though. If his dream is to fight RJJ, then I say he should do it;I'd watch. Like ShadyNismo said, he would probably find his way back to mma eventually, unless he really does just want to sit around and play video games all day.
I think Dana would have been looking to extend Silva's contract before the final fight regardless if Silva announced these plans or not. He seems to do that no matter what.

I think after the fight with RJJ Anderson would venture back to the UFC.. it'll be interesting to see how the MW division pans out once that happens.

I was just thinking that since Anderson still has 6 fights left on his contract do you think RJJ might even be fighting still since he is 40?
