Alright, this thread is about dream fights. If you were the world MMA machmaker (best job in the world lol), what would be the dream match-ups you would have by division.
here are mine:
HW: Minotoro vs Andrei Arlovski
I think this would be a great fight. Arlovski has great stand-up and a pretty good ground game. Minotoro also has pretty good boxing and sick MMA BJJ. He also has(had) a great recovery time and can take a beating without quitting. I really think this match up could make for a very entertaining fight and it would be tough picking a winner. (Although i'll always be on nog's side ;))
LHW: Lyoto Machida VS Rampage
Well looks like this dream match up could become reality in the future. Machida has great stand up in a very unorthodox way. Rampage has great technical boxing with a ton of power. Machida has never felt the power that a fighter like rampage packs so It would be interesting to see how Machida would react to getting hit. Rampage is always a tough competitor and has a ton of experiece. Very, very interesting fight to break down IMO.
MW: Ricardo Almeida VS Damian Maia
Well I'm a sucker for the ground game and there is no way in hell this fight wont hit the ground. I don't think Maia has ever faced a guy with as good Jitz as Almeida in his MMA career, and it will be interesting to see if Maia could sub Almeida as easily as he did his other opponent. I saw J-Mac put up a decent fight against him, even on the ground and it was one of the good fights Ive seen last year. I just think it could be very technical, something we havent seen in a while.
WW: I cant think of a dream fight for this one so I'll go for a WW VS A MW. GSP VS ANDERSON SILVA
I really like this match up. If GSP wins against Alves and Silva wins against Leites, I could really see this fight happening. Whats really interesting about this match up is that each fighters strengths plays directly into the others weaknesses. Anderson proved a couple of times that his wrestling isn't his greatest attribute and that he can be taken down. Now I know Silva still has a dangerous ground game but GSP's ground game is amazing. On the other hand, Matt Serra proved GSP can be TKO'ed and Silva is pretty much the master of TKO's in the UFc right now. Silva could pick GSP appart standing (Something not many fighters can do) and he also pack a ton a power, a dangerous combination for GSP. If this fight happens, it will definitely be the biggest fight in UFC history. I would pay big bucks to see this.
LW: Shinya Aoki VS BJ Penn
The 2 top LW's in the world. Some people put Aoki at the number 1 spot, others put BJ. These 2 need to fight. A lot of people pick BJ to win just because his stand up is lightyears ahead of Aokis and his TDD is just amazing against people not named GSP. BJ has an unbelievable top game and Aoki had a great guard. (Actually make that great BJJ altogether). Aoki is also on a roll these days and I think BJ might have had a bit of his soul stolen in the GSP fight. In fact I would love to see an MMA & BJJ match between these too. This fight is my top fight of all divisions, I would prolly sell my GF to see this fight live ;)
So, what do you guys think? Have anymore interesting match up's?
