Remy: Hi, I'm Remy Bonjasky, 3 times K1 champion. I'm here in Amsterdam and we're gonna talk with Fightclub.
Dude: Your next bout will be against Alistair Overeem, what are your thoughts on this match?
Remy: Alistair is new to K1. He won against Badr Hari but I see him only as another opponent that needs to be dealt with. ("pushed aside") I'm training hard again and March 28th we'll go at it.
Dude: Aren't you scared to fight Alistair Overeem, seeing as though he KO'ed Badr Hari in his first K1 match?
Remy: I'm never scared by an opponent, if I was I wouldn't even bother getting into the ring. It's true he beat Hari, who was 'sort of second' in the K1 finals last year, but I also believe that Badr hadn't properly trained for his fight with Alistair.
Dude: You're currently a three time champ in K1, how long do you think you'll keep fighting?
Remy: I will probably last two or three more years and then I'll stop fighting, when I get the feeling that I'm starting to lose too many matches. You see, I'm getting older and there is a constant input of younger fighters and I don't want to lose to many fights at the end of my career and be remembered as they guy who always lost. Your last matches are usually what you are remembered by.
Dude: Do you see yourself training others?
Remy: Preferably not. I'm busy with other projects.
Dude: What will you do then after your K1 career?
Remy: Right now I have a sucessful entertainment business which organizes parties, including after parties of K1 events like the one on May 16th. I will also be opening my own gym in my hometown of Almere which will not be solely for kickboxing but for other martial arts and squash as well.
Dude: Who will be training people in kickboxing at your gym then?
Remy: As of yet plans are in their early stages and I can't really comment on that.
Dude: Do you have any other hobbies?
Remy: Watching DVD's and playing with my son.
Dude: Will you ever be showing up at Belgian non-showtime events?
Remy: Not likely, in the past I have attended non-showtime events like in Antwerpen but not any more.
Dude: Do you ever visit Belgium for pleasure?
Remy: Sure, I've recently been shopping in Belgium. I like to go to Verso to buy new clothes.
Dude: Will you be visiting at the Amsterdam Arena this year?
Remy: Yes, I will be commenting on matches there.
Dude: What does your kickbox schedule look like for this year?
Remy: Besides the fight with Alistair, nothing has been arranged as of yet. Off coarse I'll be fighting at the final 16 and the finals but what happens between these matches I don't know yet.
Dude: There is much speculation about a rematch between you and Badr Hari, do you see this fight taking place? What are your feelings about this?
Remy: There will definately be a rematch! Everyone is wondering what would have happened if the fight hadn't ended like that. The rematch will definately come and it will be a war with the entire world watching.
Dude: Do you personally desire this rematch?
Remy: Yes I do, under the condition that it will be a sportive match. You see, I am an athlete, sometimes he says I'm not (Badr)... I'm not a brawler, I'm an athlete, I want it to be a sportive match because that's what we all want to see. We want to see the just winner. So as long as it's by the rules I am perfectly capable of taking up this fight.
Dude: Life as a K1 fighter, what does it take? Nurtition? Fitness? Or other things like swimming?
Remy: I started with power training because prior to this I hardly ever did anything with weights, I always thought it made you slower. But nowadays everybody uses power training, people like tennis and soccer players. We just started it but it's working great and it feels good. I'm much stronger and more massive now.
Dude: What does a K1 fighter's meal look like?
Remy: My meal consists of chicken or beef with vegetables, rice, potatoes or pasta. I'm definately one for fast food.
Dude: You eat two, three times a day?
Remy: One hot meal per day. I've seen some lists from other heavyweight fighters but I would never be able to eat all that, it would make me fat. I'm not a big eater.
