ME aside that is a really solid card. Maia Miller could go one of two ways it could be an awesome scramble fest or it could be a dire kickboxing fight. Hoping for the former.

I am probably one of very few people who is really looking forward to Serra / Trigg.

Do they really not see the irony in naming an event headlined by Mark Coleman Relentless?

FunkYou

I think it refers to the UFC being relentless in their pursuit of the most underwhelming fight to headline a main event.

imo this card is considerably worse than ufc 108, which is bad considering that it didn't have nearly the amount of crazy injuries as 108 did.

don't worry tho, 110 and 111 are really, really awesome

The UFC today officially announced a recently reported contest between welterweights Mike Swick (14-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and Paulo Thiago (12-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) for February's "UFC 109: Relentless" event.

Swick stepped in as a replacement for Josh Koscheck when his teammate was forced off the card with an injury.

While Koscheck and Thiago were originally scheduled in the evening's co-main event, the organization has promoted a middleweight fight between top contenders Nate Marquardt (29-8-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) and Chael Sonnen (24-10-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC) to the co-feature slot.

Featuring a main event between UFC Hall-of-Famers Mark Coleman and Randy Couture, "UFC 109: Relentless" takes place Feb. 6 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on pay per view.

Swick looks to rebound from a November loss to Dan Hardy. The loss was Swick's first since dropping to the welterweight division following an April 2007 loss to Yushin Okami. Swick had enjoyed a four-fight winning streak at 170 pounds, and the loss allowed Hardy to move on to a March meeting with current welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Meanwhile, Thiago looks to build on a November win over late-replacement Jacob Volkmann at "UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin II."

Thiago splashed on the scene in 2009 with a stunning first-round knockout of Koscheck. It was the 11th consecutive win for the Jungle Fight vet, who's posted 10 stoppages in his 11 career wins. However, his win streak came to an end in July when Koscheck's teammate, Jon Fitch, posted a unanimous decision win at UFC 100. Thiago won the first round of the matchup, but Fitch took control in the final two.

Since losing to Anderson Silva in his first title shot in 2007, Marquardt has posted a 4-1 record, though the mid-2008 loss to Thales Leites was a controversial split decision prompted by two questionable point deductions. The other victories have all come via stoppage over Jeremy Horn, Martin Kampmann, Wilson Gouveia and, most recently, Demian Maia via 21-second knockout.

The former King of Pancrase is now 10-2 over the past five years.

Sonnen, meanwhile, rejoined the UFC earlier this year following stints with the WEC and BodogFIGHT. Although just 1-2 in that first UFC run, he's now 2-1 with back-to-back decision victories following a submission loss to Demian Maia back in February. After topping Dan Miller and longtime contender Yushin Okami in his two most recent bouts, Sonnen also is inching closer to title contention.

A win over an established veteran such as Marquardt would certainly improve his standing.

A pair of lightweight bouts featuring alumni from Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series are likely to be featured during the cable station's upcoming "UFC Prelim" broadcast for UFC 109.

Sources close to the the Feb. 6 event told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the one-hour broadcast will include Mac Danzig (18-7-1 MMA, 2-3 UFC) vs. Justin Buchholz (8-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) and Melvin Guillard (22-8-2 MMA, 5-4 UFC) vs. Ronnys Torres (14-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

However, Spike TV officials could not comment on the plans when reached for comment.

UFC 109 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The "UFC Prelim" broadcast, which airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT, precedes the pay-per-view showing of the night's main card.

UFC 109 is the second of 10 "UFC Prelim" broadcasts planned for 2010. The series debuted in September 2009 and have helped bolster last-minute PPV buys – and have scored solid ratings of their own. The recent UFC 108 pay-per-view teaser, which featured Martin Kampmann vs. Jacob Volkmann and Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon, set a series record with 1.5 million viewers. (Others have averaged 1.3 million to 1.4 million viewers.)

Danzig, who won "TUF 6," finds himself in a must-win situation following his recent string of losses to Clay Guida, Josh Neer and Jim Miller. The one-time PRIDE fighter and former King of the Cage champion takes on Buchholz, who also desperately needs a victory. The one-time EliteXC fighter went 1-1 in his first two UFC fights but has since suffered stoppage losses to Terry Etim and Jeremy Stephens.

Torres and Guillard, meanwhile, were originally scheduled to meet at UFC Fight Night 18 in April 2009, but a knee injury forced Torres out of the contest and a subsequent booking. He'll now make his promotional debut against a cast member from "TUF 2" who looks to rebound from a submission loss to Nate Diaz in September. That loss snapped Guillard's three-fight win streak.

I actually think this card looks good. I think that Trigg vs Serra or Thiago vs Swick might be the night stealers.

I don't know why but whenever I see or hear about Matt Serra, the first thing that comes to my mind isnt Serra vs GSP 1. Its the Spinning Back Fist and serra's comment "F*ck this son of a bitch caught me again!"

Couture vs Coleman is a pretty awful main event. Sure, it's 2 HOF'ers fighting, but seriously, it's an awful main event. What happens to the winner? Does he get a lifetime supply of Bengay?

This card is the shits. Hell, we're getting a better card free tonight.

So many injuries, I'm thinking fighters are claiming injury when they aren't, just if they aren't feeling totally psyched and awesome for it.

Possibly Coleman, like Shogun, will suddenly get past his flagging physique and come back strong... but I doubt it.

Yeah, it's just a little too late for Coleman.

Coleman is so ancient that he's shooting up geritol instead of roids.

Man even when he's angry Sonnon looks like someone just ran over his puppy.

Nate has a chipmunk face in that pic.

Colemans face looks like its shrunk 2 sizes but his skin stayed the same size.

Serra looks like he needs to shit.

Randy and Trig look normal i spose.

I wont be buying this one....

No shit, Coleman looks awful in that poster. He really stands out as a "One of these things is not like the other(s)"

I was watching this Kenshen (sp?) episode with my sister's boyfriend the other day, and it was about these pirates that take over an opium operation, and there was this goblin looking guy with a shotgun that looked exactly like current Coleman. It was almost SCARY how much they looked alike.

I did the same comparison a long time ago on MMA forum but I think its worth a second posting. Their was a better shot of Coleman after the Shogun fight where his face is all jacked up but I couldnt find it.

Just three weeks removed from a regional-show win over Houston Alexander, the "Mexicutioner" will make his UFC debut.

The UFC today officially announced that heavyweight newcomer Joey Beltran (10-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has agreed to step in for Mostapha Al Turk and face fellow octagon rookie Rolles Gracie (3-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) on the preliminary card of Saturday's "UFC 109: Relentless" event.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the likely switch on Monday.

UFC 109 takes place Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on pay-per-view.

Beltran, a longtime Total Combat and King of the Cage fighter, enters the UFC with six wins in his past seven fights, which included a first-round TKO of UFC vet Sherman Pendergarst at a May 2009 Bellator Fighting Championships event. He's posted stoppages (nine knockouts and one submission) in all 10 of his career wins.

On his official Web site, Beltran said his new contract with the UFC calls for four fights.

Meanwhile, Gracie, the son of Rolls Gracie (whose uncle was Helio Gracie), made his pro debut in 2007 with the International Fight League. The second-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt defeated Sam Holloway via submission but wouldn't fight again for nearly two years, when he returned at the China-based Art of War promotion in 2009 and moved his record to 3-0 with a pair of additional submission victories over Baga Agaev in May and Peter Graham in September.

The UFC didn't give an official reason for Al Turk's removal from the card, but multiple sources have pointed to potential visa issues. Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer told MMAjunkie.com on Monday that the removal, then unofficial, had nothing to do with any licensing concerns.

Just watched Couture/Colemans Countdown on UFC.com. Man, why does Coleman have to make it sound soo sad when he talks about fighting and his daughters??

And I also lol'd when they showed some of the footage from Pride of Colemans gnp......and they HAD to show a clip of him punching Fedor in the face multiple times. Of course they had to get that in there lol.
