View Full Version : Michael Bisping gives his take on Dan Henderson and Demain Maia
Michael Bisping was recently a guest on the Setanta MMA show “Ultimate Talk” . During his time on the show Michael Bisping told “Ultimate Talk” spending so much time around Henderson for “TUF” has giving him the confidence to guarantee he will beat Henderson.
“Spending so much time around him has given me confidence, obviously I grew up in MMA watching Dan Henderson fight and seeing holding two belts in two weight divisions. I am looking forward to the fight I’m going in really confident and I am confident that he is going to lose…in fact I know he is going to lose”.
“I am going to win every minute of every round for the whole fight. I am going to be too quick for him too fast. His striking is no where near my level all I gotta watch out for is a big right hand and the clinch. As long as I avoid that I think its my fight to lose”.
Demain Maia is another fighter in the middle weight division that is gunning for a shot at Anderson Silva. Bisping gave his thoughts on how a fight with the undefeated middleweight Brazilian jiu jitsu expert would go.
“For him to beat me he has to take me down to the ground”, Bisping said.”I don’t think he could to be honest, I think I would knock him out on the feet”.
“I do think he is a very tough test and I have ultimate respect for the guy I think he is a fantastic fighter, but I think he is a little bit of a one trick pony and if you can’t get me down to the ground. I think he will be stuffed…Like a Christmas Turkey”.

I'd be pretty worried if he wasn't confident in himself and his skills going into such a big fight in his career. I also agree with his analysis of both fights. If he manages to scramble or stuff Hendos takedowns then I see it being Bispings fight to lose because in my eyes he's the superior striker.

i think that he's being pretty realistic in assessing his chances in his upcoming bout with hendo, i really hope he'll be able to avoid his takedowns. if he can keep the fight standing i'm liking his chances.

Yeah I saw this on the ultimate talk show, and agree with what he had to say, I also think he'd beat both guys
Bisping is one of those guys I keep underestimating but always surprises me.

Bisping is right on Henderson IMO and against Maia I think he's wrong but at this point Maia is a one trick pony.
However Demian would IMO beat him since it's a lot harder to stay off the ground with Maia then he makes it sound.

I think Bisping will beat Henderson, I believe he is the new generation and is 1 win away from the next level.
His youth will play a giant factor, especially if he can set the pace. But that'll be a bit tricky against Dan who seem's to bum rush you when you least expect it. If he stick's to the outside, sprawl's successfully and circles I think he will win a decision. If he win's any other way I will be very shocked and will consider it an upset if he knock's Dan right out cold. But not an upset if he wins on point's.

I think he is correct in his analysis of both fights. The only problem I would have with this is him thinking that he couldn't be taken down by Maia.
Unlike Hendo, Maia isn't going to shoot in he is going to get close and attach himself to Bisping and drag him down. Bisping has shown a decent ability at getting back up when taken down without taking any damage but that is against wrestlers looking to GNP.
The main weakness that Bisping has shown is getting caught in a sub attempt against jitz guys. Up to now he has always managed to defend and work his way out. If he lets Maia get a hold of him the way that Sinosic, Schafer and even McCarthy did then will get tapped.

LOL. I don't know that I have ever seen anything from Bisping to let me believe anything he said. You would have thought he was Anderson Silva by how he talks. I do like the confidence though, and every fighter has to have that. But he has to show me more to get my attention. Everyone talks and says they are going to beat everyone else prefight, its just the hype and build up.

Bisping fights inteligently, and is elusive - thats it. He doesn't strike that hard, his chin isn't that great, and he does get flustered sometimes. His ground work is minimal. I'm not sure he'd beat either of these guys.
Wow I am surprised, I really see Henderson winning this fight. I wasn't that impressed with Bisping against Leben and believe that Henderson will be able to take him down. I wouldn't be surprised if Bisping won but I'm picking Dan on this one.

I would definitley make Dan the favourite but Bisping is right in saying that he has less things to worry about in this fight than others. Survive being bumrushed in the first round and strike from the outside to win a decison.

Every minute against Hendo? That's a pretty bold statement, Dan to me always keeps fights close on the cards, and most of the time he's comes out on top.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bisping comes out too fast for Dan and just overwhelms the vet in the early part of the fight.
Maia has a tough chin, and has incredible take downs. If Bisping could avoid the ground, now that would shock me.
I am gonna go the other way than most of you and agree that he would beat Maia but disagree that he would be Hendo

I really like Bisping and don't particularly care for Hendo, but Bisping is going to get smoked by Dan, and he'd get smoked by Maia too.

I think he'll outpoint Gassy McOnepunch but would get tapped out eventualy by Maia.

Looks like Bisping is expecting to go 3 full rounds with 'Decision Dan'.
This is going to be a very close fight.
I see this one going very much like the Bisping/Rashad fight - Dan's a big, strong wrestler and he'll be going for a lot of takedowns, which I think he will get.
Bisping will be able to connect more when they're on the feet just because Dan's more of a brawler. I can see him outpointing Hendo if he can keep it standing. I also see Henderson hurting Bisping on the feet because he has so much power...then again, Leben had KO power too.
I'm gonna take Bisping, by close Decision. I think he has just enough tools to edge out a win.
As for Maia - I think he's really scary on the ground, Bisping has never been up against a fighter that even comes close to the BJJ skills of Maia. I can definitely see Bisping making a mistake and getting caught in an armbar or a triangle from the guard.

I can see him beating Hendo but not as easily as he makes it sound. I would have Henderson as a small favourite in that fight. Maia would annhilate Bisping the instant he got him down and if Bisping thinks he wouldn't get taken down eventually he's dreaming.

I think Bisping loses both fights. Hendo always just seems to find a way to win (sometimes judge assisted, but whatever), and as long as Maia has any sort of chin, eventually he gets that fight to the ground, and Bisping is done for.

I think Bisping may be the more technical striker when compared to Hendo but so was Franklin, Hendo via unanimous decision.

Great point! Ace is a very technical fighter and Dan beat him, although it was split he did get beat by Hendo

Rich and Bisping are different standing though. He has a lot more aggressive stand up and has trouble sprawl and brawling. Bisping has a real good style of stand up for sprawl and brawl.

I really like Bisping's chances against Henderson based on his standup style. I can see him stuffing alot of Dan's takedowns from the outside. Dan will try and close in for the clinch but I think Bisping circles out of it.
I dunno why people are quick to dismiss Bisping here, the guy is the future of the MW division, he is going to beat a top 10'er sooner or later and it is going to be Dan.
