So after a disappointing loss to Brett Ewing in December I decided to cut to 135. I realized I can't give up size to guys anymore, I could do it earlier in my career but now that I am fighting the top amateurs I have to go to my optimal weight class. The fight against Ewing really showed me that, he was bigger and superior at wrestling and held me down for five rounds.

Made my debut at 135 pounds friday night and fought for the First Strike Combat 135 pound title against undefeated Cornelius Godfrey(7-0, all fights finished in first round). I won a split decision, an absolute war. Got fight of the night, the belt, and free WEC tickets (which was awesome) and most importantly the fight was fun to watch, and not a snoozer as I dont care about winning and losing, but I must have good fights.

Just a little update, sorry no video, im gonna try to track it down then i will post it. My most entertaining fight yet I think it was really fun and Cornelius really gave me a great fight and made me a better fighter.

Congrats on the win.

Looks like you had a great time at the Arnold/WEC.

I heard on another forum that Pat Barry is a really cool guy.

Good luck in your future fights.

I cant even put into words how cool of a guy Pat Barry is. I mean you want to talk about going above and beyond for the fans. If there is one thing I left this weekend with it is a respect for Pat Barry as a person. There were like 6 or 7 UFC studs all signing autographs and then at a certain point they all left, all except Pat Barry. He just stayed by himself for literally hours until the expo was over at six and he took the time to talk to every fan and you could tell he was really enjoying himself.

Congratulations kamikaze, glad to hear your debut at 135 went well. How was the cut for you?

Looking forward to hopefully seeing the footage. It's awesome that you got to go to the WEC event and met a bunch of UFC fighters too.

At first when I saw your pic with Guida but not reading anything I thought you actually fought him and took picture afterwards. Great you won the title and if you put on a show you will be loved by the fans. Congrats.

btw the decision to drop to 135lbs was great. We've got a future WEC Bantamweight Champ in here :D

Congrats on being champ again. Keep it up and WEC will be calling to sign you up not just to give you free tickets.

It was a really big cut but I did it over a long period of time so it wasnt too bad. The last 48 hours of it were the worst of my life but besides that it was manageable. started at 157 and dieted or about 6 weeks and started a lifting routine(i have never lifted before lol) then cut off lifting about three weeks out and replaced it with an extra hard cardio session. Dieting all the way down 146 the monday before the fight with very little fluid restriction and then continued dieting down all week as well as starting cutting the water on wednesday and made weight at exactly 135.0. Hardest i have ever worked for a fight and the most disciplined i have ever been on a diet

Well, thats the thing. You need to give it all out to win. Might sound a bit weird but I can't wait to do all this stuff (I know that I'll eat my words some day :D)

I'm sure it'll only get easier from this point out, kudos to pulling it off the intelligent way. Are you going to try and control your weight more between fights so you're not cutting as much?

im going to make a slight adjustment to my walking weight which i think will help a ton. instead of walking at 157 im gonna walk at about 152-154 and instead of cutting from 146 to 135 the week of im going to go from 143 to 135 and see if that eases the process some. I think slight adjustments like that will make a big difference, i will find a way that works real well for me and stick with that, that was just my first attempt it will get smoother.

Unfortunately, I have bursitis in my right elbow, its very swollen and painful and looks like im gonna be out for about 6 weeks minimum. I still plan on fighting May 22nd to defend the First Strike Combat 135 title, but it will depend on how much i can rest the elbow and how quick it heals.

Good luck the rehab and hopefully you won't be defening your title with one arm.
