Just another stellar card, as always from the WEC. Cant wait WEC 51 but man did this card deliver. So what happens now?
Quote:
Cruz: Scotty 2 Hotty. Cant freakin wait to see how Jorgensen handles the dancing around of Cruz. Both guys love to slug and both like to mix in occasional takedowns so should be a stellar fight.
Benavidez: Damacio Page. If the dude can ever get healthy he has been on the brink of a title contender bout forever but keeps having to pull out of fights. A fight against a guy coming off a title shot would be smart and should be a fun fight.
Pettis: Bendo. WOW!! I cant believe he pulled that off with like ten seconds to go. Being honest, there were lots and lots of opportunities to lock that up that he should have taken advantage of but he absolutely deserves a title shot after how fun that was.
Roller: Tough loss but I wouldn’t mind seeing him take on Jewtuszko.
Mendes: Brown/Province. Chad is obviously a star on the rise and I think its time to take on a top guy even though he needs to work on doing damage from top control. Brown would be that elite guy.
Swanson: Loser of Garcia/Hominick. Cub obviously doesn’t have great wrestling and really wants to just stand and throw his wild strikes and either guy would allow him to do that.
Jorgensen: Cruz. Just amazing fight. Great striking by both, great chin by both, great scrambles by both. Just a fantastic fight but I am glad Scotty 2 Hotty won because he absolutely deserves his title shot and I hope he takes the title.
Pickett: Banuelos. You know Antonio wouldn’t want to go to the ground and this could make for another excellent fight. Make it happen!
Palaszewski: Varner/Cerrone Winner for title shot. I don’t get the hate for Bartimus. He is a talented and experienced fighter and can be competitive regardless of where the fight goes. After four straight wins, he deserves a #1 contender bout and I can guarantee the winner of Varner/Cerrone will be in a #1 contender bout, earned or not.
Micklewright: Njokuani. See below.
Jewtuszko: Roller. Was a surprising win to say the least so give him a stern test in Roller.
Njokuani: Micklewright. If Anthony loses against I am not sure how he can stick around in the WEC so he needs someone who is likely to stand and trade and it appears Micklewright was willing to do that.
Vazquez: Assuncao. I may be in the minority but I really think Javier belongs in the elite of the division and just had some bad luck coming out on the wrong side of a couple decisions to start his WEC career. A fight with Raphael would be a fun ground battle if it went there though and would clear up who should be fighting the top guys.
Semerzier: I think after subbing Wags he should be given one more chance but not against a walk-over fighter. Maybe someone like Brandon Visher.
Lamas: Kamal Shalorus. Since they aren’t doing a rematch with Varner this fight would make sense. Lamas has won three in a row so this could put the winner towards the very top of the division.
Jansen: Dustin Poirier.
Paixao: Tyler Toner.
Caraway: Yves Jaboiun in loser leaves town.
Castillo: Will Kerr. Danny showed good wrestling and cardio but he almost got caught from the bottom twice during the fight. Kerr should give him some more experience fending off sub attempts
Poirier: Dave Jansen.
