If that doesn't work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-xH4Fms4bc Frank Shamrock vs Allan Goes. Great ground battle, which featured a great BJJ guy faving a great catch wrestler. Goes was a bit puzzled by Frank's leg-lock attempts, but was able to fluster Frank with his first real taste of BJJ. My goodness, Frank was roided to all fuck in this fight, and Goes had a great mount. Awesome fight. Some of the Pancrase fights dragged like all hell, but this one was amazing. For being relatively new, Frank did really decent when Goes got his back. He powered out of some mount's, too. Frank sporting the Ken Shamrock WWF boots, too. Goes didn't quite know of the escape rule when he almost choked Frankie out. Gets a yellow card for his efforts. Both guys are fucking legends. I've always thought that Allan Goes was underrated, and I don't know what the fuck he was smoking when he decided to face Coleman, who was HUGE and FUCKING ROIDED OUT OF HIS MIND. Watching Pancrase fights, I can only imagine how great guys like Coleman, Randleman, and Kerr would have done in this setting. Hell, Kerr could've had a much longer career had he fought with these kind of rules. Post some badass Pancrase fights. Discuss them with us. Discuss.

2nd fight in their trilogy. The only one Kondo won. Yuki is probably THE most underrated fighter from the late ninties. He went 22-5-2 from 1997 until he got his shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. But because he lost by neck crank against a guy who was 30lbs bigger than him, people look at him as some sort of joke. Kind of sucks, since as you can see in fights like this, he was pretty bad ass, grappling up Funaki and then beating that ass on the feet. And then obviously Masa is one of the original kings of MMA, nothing bad to say about the guy at all.

Apparently this was a work. And the borderline fisherman suplex into side control that Ken pulled off seems to fit with that theory. It's still a really entertaining match regardless and a great finish. Plus Humes creepy porn stache is impressive. Also Ken vs Suzuki. Kens the King of Pancrase and riding high after going the distance with Then unbeaten Royce about a month earlier. And is generally one of the scariest mofo's around at the time. We get some nice TD's, scrambles, sub attempts, escapes, and a brutal finish. And to top it off we get a really awesome and slightly unnecessary celebration. Which involves tossing a limping man fresh out of a fight into the air. Edit: And as a bonus here's the scariest man to ever wear purple/ pink'ish shorts..

Excelleng choices, gentlemen. Kondo was a great fighter, who was booked poorly. Seriously, why is he fighting guys like barnett and wand? He was a smaller guy fighting giants. He was still able to put a great tito ortiz on his ass.

Ken vs Minoru was another work, but a good one. Fine wrestling match. Ken worked the shoot style really, really well. This fight was to give Suzuki a push as the next badass. Funaki knew Minoru didn't have a shot against Ken (Who is the greatest fighter in early Pancrase), so he decided to have a convincing work.
Frank Shamrock vs Yuki Kondo. Great match-up, and this is really Kondo's break-out performance. Frank's stand-up isn't quite there yet, while yuki is crisp. His palm strikes were quite Bas-like, but they were good. Frank even throws a closed fist punch, and it hits Kondo square in the jaw. Kondo seemed to have enjoyed that. great ending, though as a Frankie fan, I found it kind of sad. Bas vs Funaki 2. This was Bas at his best, and Funaki was damn good here, too. In their first fight, Funaki got hit with a closed fist and then fucking ripped Bas' foot off. Here, we get to see the best out of both men. Funaki had a masterful top game, using catch wrestling techniques with a great base. Bas' stand-up is crisp and fucking lethal. Bas mentions soul glo in the commentary. Just a fascinating fight, and top 20 of all-time. Funaki is unrecognizable after this fight. Great heart.

Was actually gonna post Bas/ Funaki 2. Bas's grappling improvement from the first to second fight is quite noticeable. And on the feet he's as destructive as ever. He just batters Funaki around on the feet with a ton of straight palm strikes , and lots of knees.
Not a great fight by any means, but i enjoy watching big generic 80's looking bad guys with no skills take on vastly superior talents and Funaki vs August smith would fit into that category. From the dumb look on smiths mongoloid face when he eats the head kick to his headlock attempt on Funaki after the TD. It's short, but sweet. More of Frank being Frank. Some nice sweeps, guard passes, and overall just a really aggressive Shamrock. And to top it off we have Ken on commentary. around 8:25 Fuke looks to hit a mounted triangle and almost inadvertently attempts a Aokiplatta about 15 years before Aoki hits it. lol

Fucken Ken was a badass back then. That fishermen suplex he did against Hume was awesome. But I think I read, one time that that fight was fixed?

That'd be crazy to think of a major promotion doing it now, but back then Pancrase wasn't really that far removed from pro wrestling. So alot of times they favored the entertainment value over the competition. And honestly predetermined outcome or not i enjoyed it, so w/e.

Shamrock/Hume was definitely fixed. One of several from Pancrase's early days.
I've talked many times about Bas/Funaki 2, so felt no need to post it. And Damone... for shame posting Frankie/Kondo. There are some things you just don't do, and that's one of them.
