Default Cormier has a final StrikeForce opponent

Tim Sylvia

Quote:
LOL.

That seems to be the collective reaction to the news coming from MMAWeekly.com that Tim Sylvia -- the same Tim Sylvia UFC President Dana White adamantly refused to do business with -- has signed a multi-fight contract with Strikeforce and will fight Daniel Cormier on Sept. 29, 2012, at the Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, California.

That settles Cormier's final fight under the Strikeforce banner before moving over to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). There's little doubt he's happy with this latest development, too, considering he already came out in support of the bout back in late May.

Because in his mind, beating a guy who once held a UFC title is "a big deal."

For his part, we can be certain Sylvia is ecstatic, what with his recent campaign to get back under the Zuffa banner now officially a success. He's not back in the UFC but Strikeforce is undoubtedly the next best thing. The big question is whether or not White will relent and allow him back inside the Octagon if he's to upset Cormier.

Actually, is there any chance he does that? At all?

Another interesting aspect to this deal is that Sylvia reportedly signed a multi-fight contract. Of course, he could get knocked out in the first round and promptly sent packing, which is surely what many will expect.

But what if he wins?

Strikeforce has dissolved its heavyweight division, save for this final fight. And I don't think even "BEAST MODE" could get Sylvia down to 205-pounds.

So what's the plan? Stay tuned.

Strikeforce hits Sacramento on Sept. 29 and the Cormier vs. Sylvia bout is the only fight rumored for the card at this time. As always, stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more information as it becomes available.

This is one of the best matches SF could make under the circumstances....it sucks he has to stay in SF for one final fight but with how the HW div is there isn't anything better out there really.

I wrote a piece on how Carwin was the best option, but since they weren't willing to bring a guy from the UFC over, Sylvia was the next best choice.

Sad, but it was the best that could be done.

haha awesome. I will be praying nightly for timmeh to somehow ko him and screw the whole thing up. Please god, I know you and me haven't been close over the years, and I've called you some bad names from time to time, but please let timmy ko cormier and I promise I will stop believing in evolution and will become a republican.

Well, not a horrible choice, but I wish that Golden Glory and Dana would play nice so we can see Sergei Kharitonov back.

MMAMania is such a shitty website. You don't even need to look at the source to know something is from there.

One of the better fights that could have been made I you're not bringing Cormier straight to the UFC.

White: Tim Sylvia not signed to Zuffa

by Chris Palmquist | source: The Underground

Today, Dana White reported exclusively to the Underground that Tim Sylvia would not be joining the Zuffa roster, under either the UFC or the Strikeforce banner.

It was widely reported that the ex-UFC heavyweight champion had signed a four-fight contract with the promotion, and would fight Strikeforce Grand Prix Champion Daniel Cormier in late Septemnber.

However, this appears to not be the case. White said the signing was never announced, and that "long story, but yes, Tim is not with Zuffa."

White received criticism earlier today, as he had told the media that Tim Sylvia was not an option to fight Cormier, before today's news of Sylvia's signing broke online

But, as is usually the case with rumors, in the words of White himself: "Never a FACT unless I say it is."
Well that makes more sense. Couldn't see why they would get Timmeh for a multifight deal when the heavy weight div was going to disappear.
