Normally i do mma and Thai box. This weekend i went to do a bjj tournament and i got disqualified after the first fight.
The disqualification was correct. It went to the ground, i got on top, stacked him up. And then i knocked him with one big punch to the temple, this stunned him, i almost followed up with another but the ref stopped me. I knew i could not do this, but out of habit and in the moment of a fight i seemed to forgot it. Can i do something so this doesn't happen again ? I directly went to his corner to apologize, it was the power of habit. |

hmmm.. so when you normally roll in training do you "forget" and punch people too?
I cant understand how this could happen if you actually train bjj |

When we train, we also hit, but we wear sparring helmets. We are a gym that focusses on muay thai.
If you do mma, why don't you trade some blows ? I just enrolled in a bjj class, thats new for me, but i have to get better at my groundgame. It was a big mistake from me to hit the other person, and i felt terrible after because in bjj you can not do this. Its like shooting an unarmed men. |

I mean I fight MMA but don't hit people in bjj because of reflex

I was also surprised, i did it. Could it been my survival instincts kicked-in ? I never trained bjj. Just the mma training. I was replacing someone on short notice. Now i enrolled at a bjj club. So i can improve and so this would not happen again. Cause i want to be learning and competing in bjj so i can become more wellrounded.

Sounds like you are on the right track. You said you previously did MMA and Muay Thai, both of which allow such blows. Apparently, BJJ does not (no expert here). By joining a club that primarily does BJJ, you will learn. Just like the other two disciplines, with training and experience, it will come.
