I don't really dabble with photoshop, but I do have a passion for photography and film so I will post my works in here. Hope you guys like my stuff! Feel free to discuss/critique, etc!
Gallery #1: Title: "The Emerald and Ebony Palace" Location: Milford Haven, my home town in Wales. Subject: The Texaco (I think?) oil refinery overlooking the bay. Notes: I have no idea how the colors turned out the way they did, but I think its a really cool effect. Didn't touch this up at all! ![]() Title: "A Proper Night's Education" Location: WLU dorm, Waterloo, ON Subject(s): Josh (FullMetal) and our friend Stu. Notes: I heard drunken laughter down the hall from me and being the voyeur that I am, I took pictures of what I found. ![]() Title: "Towering Faith" Location: Bardi, Northern Italy. Subject: The local church/bell tower looming over the town. Notes: I liked the vantage point, not really much else to this one lol. ![]() Title: "Living in the Shadow of Day" Location: Bardi, Northern Italy. Subject: A Tree in the Valley. Notes: I took this picture because I found it really peculiar that this lone tree in the middle of the valley was right on the brink of shadow and light. ![]() Title: "Bardi, Il Mio Amore" Location: Bardi, Northern Italy Subject: The landscape of the town I stayed in. Notes: Thought it was a breathtaking view, one I wanted to immortalize! ![]() Title: "Frozen In a Slice of Life" Location: Parma, Italy. Subject(s): Bustling street, bicyclist, my Father (on the left) Notes: I really like the brown color pallet of this photograph, the sense of movement, and the architecture of the town. ![]() Title: "Approaching the Colossus" Location: Parma, Italy. Subject(s): My Father approaching one of the many churches in Parma. Notes: The image of a man approaching a church or any kind of religious iconography generally incites some sense of desire for spiritual discovery. The closer my Father got to the tower, the more I noticed how much it dwarfed him, much like the search for understanding of our origin in this universe dwarfs us. Many people are drawn to religion for answers in relation to that issue and I felt that this picture sort of encapsulates that idea. ![]() Title: "Wings of Defiance" Location: Venice, Italy. Subject(s): Large bird of prey, tower. Notes: I saw a giant bird, no idea what kind it is circling the tower and thought it was sort of ominous. ![]() Gallery #2: Title: "Doggy In the Window" Location: My living room. Subject(s): My dog, Buffy. Notes: Every day at around 5pm, my dog climbs onto the couch arm and sits there, waiting for my parents to come home from work. She looks incredibly intense and fixated, so I figured why not take a shot? The dog looking through the window at the free world is kind of a sad image, don't you think? ![]() Title: "The Living Oil Painting" Location: Venice, Italy. Subject(s): Pastel houses alongside the water. Notes: The way the water reflected the beautiful colored villas inspired me to take this photograph. It almost looks like the water and the colors are from a Renoir painting. ![]() |

Haha, thanks man.. I never really thought about it the way you described, but I can definitely see the villainous quality. I could see it being the main setting for a sci-fi film, mainly because it's hyper-industrialized and looks so unnatural in a natural setting.
It's probably the best photograph I have ever taken. I took it while I was back in Wales for my grandmother's funeral last year, really happy with how it turned out. |

Yeah, I get that vibe as well, now that you mention it. Somewhat ties into the sense of motion I was kind of alluding to. I love depth of field, it's one of my favorite things about photography and cinematography, so I was pretty satisfied with the angle I managed to get on the street.. it almost looks endless. |

Wow, very impressive.
I really like the strange colours of "The Emerald and Ebony Palace". Even though those colours are not related directly to the refinery, it gives me the impression of how humans have been such a burden to the planet. On one hand it's beautiful, but also depressing in another sense.

In terms of purely cinematographers, I like Greg Toland (Citizen Kane) and Peter Hannan (Children of Men). A lot of my favorite cinematographers are directors too, like Woody Allen, Ingmar Bergman, Jean-Luc Godard, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson. Thanks man, but you're biased because it's taken in Wales! lol I wish I had come with you guys lol. |
