What if: GSP vs Silva

There are a lot of what if's when it comes to this fight. What if GSP wins, what if he wins in dominating fashion. The same question can be asked for Silva. If GSP wins and in dominating fashion would Silva move up. We all know he doesn't want to due to Machida, but Machida isn't in the title picture anymore, atleast not for another fight or two. GSP would have a lot of new challengers, but what about Marquardt, they are training partners right?? Would they fight if it came up. Would Marquardt move up and be right behind Silva again? Who would fight for the WW belt? There are a lot of questions that come from making this fight happen. What is your prediction for the following questions.....

If they fight, will it be at MW or CW?

If the fight happens at MW, will GSP vacate the title or hold on to it just in case he loses?

If GSP wins and in dominating fashion, will Silva move up? He already beat everyone at MW and would have nobody to fight to work back up to a MW title shot.

If GSP won and stayed at MW, who would fight for the WW belt?

If Silva moved up, would Marquardt do the same?

If Silva won and in dominating fashion would he retire or would he move up.

If Silva won, would GSP continue to fight at MW since he would have a new goal at beating Silva in a rematch or would he go back down.

If Silva wins and moves up, who would he fight and how far off would he be from another big championship fight.

If GSP moves up to MW for good, would Fitch do the same thing? Without GSP, Fitch and Koscheck would surely have to fight at sometime if they stayed in WW together.

What other questions can you think of that this fight would cause?

I'm pretty sure GSP has stated he would make the permanent move to MW if he were to fight A. Silva.

Tough question, I only see the fight going one of two ways and GSP dominating A.Silva on the mat is one of them, they may push A.Silva up to LHW or hell even HW as A.Silva has talked about it before.

GSP would stay, WW would be interesting for the first time in years, I'd say a combo of Koscheck, Shields, BJ Penn or Condit would be very likely.

Possibly and I dont think it matter as Marquardt wouldn't come close to sniffing the LHW title picture.

Personally don't feel he would dominate GSP, I feel that GSP would win most rd's with A.Silva possibly finishing GSP on the feet....a rematch would almost be inevitable due to GSP controlling most of the action.

He would stay as mentioned above.

I don't think it would happen but if it did I'd say one fight and then a title fight.

The way Fitch talks I think he would move to MW, I think that be stupid and he should just get over it and be willing to fight Koscheck.

Most of these questions were answered on Ariel's MMA Hour yesterday. GSP's main coach said that GSP would more than likely move up to 185 after beating Shields, unless Fitch is V impressive in the Penn fight and finishes him. After moving up he'd stay there because he would put on a lot of muscle and wouldn't want to move down again.

Did ya read any of the questions? Yeah there was 2 or 3 about the wieght thing but there were also questions about where each fighter would go depending on the outcome.

MW

Yes, because he wouldn't be able to defend the WW belt anymore.

Hmmmm good question. I would think the Spider would want to get revenge. Maybe 1 good win then a rematch.

Nah.

No, Nate is fine at MW.

I don't think we're going to see A. Silva move up at all now. I think by the time this fight happens, A. Silva will be ready to retire. So that's entirely possible.

He won't go back down after he goes up.

A. Silva is one top 10 win away from a title shot right now at 205 IMO.

Nah, Fitch I think will stay at WW

Nope, didn't read most of them. I was just trying to help OP with the questions he put about GSP going up and down in weight.

The only real questions that interest me regarding GSP moving up to 185 is what happens when there is no title holder. Will they have a 4 or 8 man tournament or will the top two ranked guys just fight for the belt. The only other question being would Fitch and Kos fight if they had to?. I think they would eventually see that they may as well fight each other because it'll be the only chance either of them will have of holding a UFC title.

I'm asking for your opinion on what could happen, not whats been said in interviews. Fighters and trainers say stuff all the time, but it doesn't always happen the way they say. This is a what if thread, its just for fun. I'm sure GSP could go back down to WW if he wanted to

What if Silva knocks out GSP in under 2 minutes and then moves up to 205 or retires. Who do you think would fight for the MW belt?

Lets say GSP wins and Silva moves up. I can't see him going out on a loss. How would you see these possible match ups playing out....

Silva vs Shogun
Silva vs Rashad
Silva vs Rampage
Silva vs Jones

GSP vs Sonnen
GSP vs Belfort
GSP vs Marquardt
GSP vs A. Silva
GSP vs Maia

Thats a lot of fights, so feel free to just give quick answers or just pick and choose. I really hope this match up happens because it could create so many amazing fights for both fighters

I would love to see that as well.... Although that might make him stay at WW longer and I really think MW is more interesting for him.
