Default Top 10 Most Exciting Japanese Grapplers Ever.

1. Kazushi Sakuraba
2. Rumina Sato.
3. Shinya Aoki.
4. Hatsu Hioki.
5. Hideo Tokoro.
6. Masakazu Imanari.
7. Satoru Kitaoka.
8. Daisuke Nakamura.
9. Hidehiko Yoshida.
10. Kazuo Misaki.

All ten guys never stall(ed), and always went for the finish.

I'll take Tokoro over any boring wrestler.

Discuss.

Your list is spot on. By grapplers you mean just like bjj/wrasslin/judo wise or you mean best MMA fighters from grappling background. If so then Yoshida could be top 5. His wars with Wand are fucking legendary.

Just strictly MMA here, MKZ. Their backgrounds are considered, but on the battlefield is where they shine.

Yoshida could definitely be top 5. His all out war with Wandy, in 2003, was amazing. Guy was just green in that fight, and still managed to give the true Axe Murderer a real competitive fight. The crowd, wow, they also made that fight awesome.

Fuck, I miss Pride. I miss fighters actually fighting. MMA is so sport-heavy right now, that it makes me wish for another real GP.

Strikeforce's HW GP seems doomed. That sucks.

Oh shit, I am going to get killed here. Big Time. I left out Sudo. FUCK ME! Replace him with Misaki.

List is in no real order.

Is Misaki really considered a grappler?

I think so. He strikes, as well, and is considered a street fighter, but he's definitely a really fun grappler. His mixture of jiu jitsu and judo is fucking fun. Excellent takedowns when he wants them, nice top positioning, fucking awesome guillotine, etc.

I fucking knew something was missing. Sudo !

And yea, Yoshida vs Wand in 2003 GP is one of my favourite fights (their 2005 rematch was really good as well.) I was never really into Yoshida up until I saw his wars with Wandeco and the Hunt fight and I became a fan.

Taschuk might've killed ya for leaving out Sudo, good cover up.

Funny that this thread looms after a GSP fight, I hear ya though, too many athletes and not enough fighters these days for my liking.

Personally I'd put Rumina at #1, but then I noticed you said it was in no particular order.

Rumina Sato
Kazushi Sakuraba
Genki Sudo
Masakazu Imanari
Shinya Aoki
Hatsu Hioki
Daisuke Nakamura
Hideo Tokoro
Masakatsu Funaki
Yusuke Honma

Just to add a couple different names in there.

Edit: Nice cover up throwing Sudo in there.

Also Imanari has been mentioned. Damn that dude is so fucking chilled out when grappling. He gives you a leg and doesnt even give a shit. He's like "Take my leg bitch, you ain't subbin' me anyway". I love it.

There's no fucking way to make a Top 10 list.

Damone, can't believe you forgot Sudo, but in all honesty I couldn't take Misaki out of that list either. Dudes just so god damn exciting. Might not be the most proficient grappler on that list, but holy shit he's exciting.

Great call on Funaki. I want to add Ishida to that list (fun wrestler) and maybe Minoro Suzuki.
