Damone, can't believe you forgot Sudo, but in all honesty I couldn't take Misaki out of that list either. Dudes just so god damn exciting. Might not be the most proficient grappler on that list, but holy shit he's exciting.

Great call on Funaki. I want to add Ishida to that list (fun wrestler) and maybe Minoro Suzuki.
Ishida has been in a couple of stinkers, I'm glad he wasn't included....Suzuki is a good shoutout though.

Ishida was pretty boring in his last fight Other than that he's a fun grappler too.

Damn all this talk makes me want to watch some of these guys HLs.

Yeah I dunno, his first fight with Melendez wasn't that fantastic either.

If I was to put the list in order:

1. Kazushi Sakuraba
2. Hideo Tokoro
3. Genki Sudo
4. Hidehiko Yoshida
5. Rumina Sato
6. Hatsu Hioki
7. Masakazu Imanari
8. Shinya Aoki
9. Satoru Kitaoka
10. Daisuke Nakamura

Mishima deserves some love in this thread. He generally gets the short end of the stick because he had that awful UFC run(the Joe Daddy sub was particularly sad).

All time my favorite is Genki but I think Rumina takes the overall title.

Dammit, forgot about Dokonjonosuke. Love that guy. Very, very active top game. Always tries to pass. Loved his surly 2008 run. Too bad he hasn't done anything since losing to Otsuka in a spirited battle.

Mishima almost subbed Imanari with a kneebar. That was AWESOME! And I love Masakatsu.

Mishima's UFC run was bad, but he did almost sub Florian. His performance against Stevenson was....just....embarrassing. How, in the hell, are you going to leave your neck out there like that, that many times?

Funaki is the man. A true pioneer. One of the forefathers of JMMA, along with Sayama and Maeda. Only, Funaki could fucking fight.

Suzuki was too hit or miss for me. Loved the guy, and his catch game was indeed great, but he just had some poor performances against guys he could've subbed. Plus, his two works with Ken really make me not want to add him. Barnett said rolling with Suzuki was painful, as Minoru would grind his knees into Barnett's *thunder* thighs when they rolled.

Rumina's work is head and shoulders above a lot. He was the first real complete MMA fighter in Japan. He was way, way, wayyyyy ahead of his time. Him & Saku are top bill.

I honestly remember thinking the Mishima/Joe fight was a work when I was watching it live.

I kind of thought the same thing. That and the Edwards vs Hominick fight were both having me wondering.

I was like "They can't be THAT stupid, can they?"

Again, great call on Mishima.

Also, while we're at it, is it cool to mention Megumi Fuji and Satoko Shinashi?
