Default Rory McIlroy...

I don't follow (or even particularly like) golf, but fucking hell. He was just at -16 at the US Open. That four shots under par more than anybody else has ever been at the US Open... ever.

Sehr impressive, particularly after his collapse at the Masters.

Can anybody who knows a bit more about Golf than me (i.e. anything) clarify how impressive this is?

It is very impressive and has been building for a while. Dude is still only 22 so is going to be the youngest us champ ever as well. He is making the best golfers in the world look like amatuers.

Yeah he's like two months younger than me, which is kind of depressing really.

Hey fella that's ok. You could achieve stuff too, I mean you probably won't, but you could.

For a guy to break 12 records, many set by Tiger Woods when he was in unstoppable form, is pretty special. Saw a video today from when he was 10 or something, saying he would be a major champion. Pleased for him, seems like a cool dude.

This. We were born 10 days apart,

He has such a great swing, fantastic player to watch.

Weird thing is that if Rory isn't in the tournament, it would have been quite interesting considering how the rest of the field was playing. There were about 8 guys that were within 3-4 shots of eachother for 2nd place throughout the weekend.

An excellent performance no doubt but the media is getting a bit silly with it, sure he could be the next great thing (which golf needs badly) but the Tiger comparisons are ridiculous.

When tiger won the masters at 22 with an equally dominant performance the Nicklaus comparisons were ridiculous. The reasons for the comparisons are they are both very long off the tee, great iron play and a metronomic putter.

Yeah I agree the Nicklaus comparison's were ridiculous but I think this one is still more ridiculous......Woods won 28 of his first 100 events, McIlroy has 3 out of a 100....the kid is promising but what Woods did for golf is absolutely insane....he changed the landscape of golf as we know it, he forced golf establishments to change the way they built courses for christ sake......nobody has been as dominant as Woods was over the last 10 years and while I want to see McIlroy succeed (young charismatic fella who aint American ) I really think its absurd to try and say he could be as good as Tiger at this stage.

Agreed but also take into account that he was a bad round away from winning the previous 2 majors as well. The knock on Rory has always been his mental game. If he has gotten over that hump then he really could be ad dominant.
