There were a couple of historical articles I wanted to write in December, but I just didn't have time to research them properly. So instead, with the month drawing to a close, I continued to be slightly lazy (as well as mildly self-obsessed) and wrote an article essentially about myself and for which minimal research was needed.
I love MMA at New Year. Quote:

I'd say the first time I was serious around the new years was 06' (05' didnt really have a new years event, I hadn't discovered JMMA yet). Bisping trashed Schafer, Arlovski landed a dirty blow on the ground to finish Cruz whilst MacDonald and Jardine provided upsets over Leben and Griffin respectively.
Icing on the cake was Liddell mashin Ortiz again, a very fond memory. 07' was one of the greatest years for New Years IMO with UFC 79. Clementi destroyed Guillard in a bad blood match and then gave him the classic "suck it" sign, epic moment. The true birth of the Machida hype train when he defeated highly touted Sokoudjou....man its sad to see how Sokky fell. Sanchez/Palelei from what I remember was a fun HW brawl. Liddell/Silva finally happened and for me did not dissapoint....as the decision was announced my voice had completely gone, probably the most animated I've been for any MMA bout due to the insane debates that surrounded the fight for so long. GSP absolutely mangled Hughes, you'd never seen Hughes dominated soo badly for 10 minutes like that, this was when GSP had a killer instinct still so was still very fun to watch. 2011? Overeem/Lesnar has me very excited and Diaz/Cerrone will be the goods but other than that there's nothing that really has me wow for the New year cards.....I like year end though as its really one of few moments where we get time to really reflect on what happened throughout the year.

I only catched two NYE JMMA events (I've only really been a fan since UFC 97). And one NYE UFC event (well unless you consider UFC 107 into that group.) The first Dynamite!! will be remembered for two reasons. It was my first ever NYE show I watched...and Aoki showed why he's the executioner when it comes to ground game. Even though I didnt pay enough attention to the show, it got me to start downloading Pride events. Also UFC 125 which has been so disapointing I'm not even gonna write about it.
Then last years Dynamite!!. Card was awesome entertainment wise. Very enjoyable fights. Result wise, it's right up there with UFC 92 and 125 as one of the saddest cards for me. Uno was thrown around like a bag of shit, Minowaman got TKO'd, Misaki got fucked (although by Sergei, so it's not as painful), Aoki got KTFO'd by a transvestite, Sakuraba got his ear torn off and Mach Sakurai lost. Kawajiri and Overeem won, so it was good. But that was also the first NYE and Japan event I was able to chat with knowledgable people which was cool...until Aoki lost and everyone started being a dick. Since then I've fallen in love with JMMA, and wait an entire year for December 31st (or not 31st) just to watched a stacked card with like 15 K-1 and MMA fights. This year is no different, and with like 15 hours of straight MMA I am super pumped. First you got Cerrone vs Diaz. I am soo excited to see this fight. Pissed off Cerrone + Your regular Diaz = Fight of the Year candidate. And also Reem's first step towards dominance. If that wasn't enough, Japan's NYE card. How stacked that bitch is ?! So yeah, a good written article and I cannot wait till this friday.

My memory sucks for trying to remember cards as a whole and when i first started watching.
I think my first new years as a hardcore fan was 92, shame it didn't actually happen. I had watched others, but never as a serious fan, by that i mean i might have missed some live shows. I think since like 82 i have tried to watch every live event, and only missed ones where my internet wasn't working. lol The last few JMMA new years have been awesome though. From the fights to the crazy shoutbox convo's that only a JMMA card where you have to stay up all night could produce.

LMAO, FLD Shoutbox, where 95% of the discussion is about porn, and other 5% about porn stars.

New Year's is MMA Christmas. I just hope I can make it to a computer to catch some of this year's stuff.
My most memorable NYE card was UFC 79 for sure, because I was at that sumbitch live. Sanchez/Palelei was awful, awful stuff though e-thug. UFC 66 was a big deal for me too, because it was the first time the UFC really put on a NYE type card. Shockwave '05 was my first live NYE event though, and it had awesome stuff like Gomi/Sakurai, Fedor/Zulu, CroCop/Hunt, Saku breaking off Minowaman before he was a super hero, and who could forget Krazy Horse winning by submission over some Japanese TV dude. Going back after I was a little more seasoned in MMA and watching some of the old Japanese NYE TV battles (PRIDE, K-1, Inoki, etc) has also been pretty awesome. Classic freakshow stuff like you can't believe. Nice trip down memory lane, Jack.

Also, I forgot just how ridiculous Shockwave 2004 actually was. I'm off work for six or seven days after today so I definitely need to rewatch that event at some point.

Remember Hero's 2007 NYE show? They managed to co-mingle Yarrenoka (sp?) with the Hero's show. So, we ended up getting shit like Tamura vs Tokoro, Kid vs Yahya, Hansen vs Miyata, Fedor vs Choi, and Misaki vs Akiyama.
Fun, fun, FUN show.
