The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale ratings: Event averages 1 million FX viewers

The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale averaged one million FX viewers this past weekend, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with industry sources.

The event, which concluded the latest season of the "TUF" reality series, took place June 1 at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

It was the first season to air on FX following a seven-year, 14-season run on Spike TV.

The five-fight FX main card followed prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook. The FX broadcast averaged a .88 household rating among men 18-34, a .95 among men 18-49, and a .68 among people 18-49.

The figures were similar to the regular-reason run of "TUF," which averaged a little than 1 million viewers per week. The show featured a 32-man lightweight tournament with UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber as coaches. It was the first "TUF" season to feature live elimination fights each week.

In the TUF Live Finale headliner, Martin Kampmann knocked out fellow welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger in the second round. Additionally, Michael Chiesa was crowned the latest "TUF" champion after he submitted fellow lightweight finalist Al Iaquinta in the first round of the night's co-headliner.

The most recent TUF Finale, the TUF 14 Finale, averaged 2.5 million viewers on Spike TV this past December on the strength of a Michael Bisping vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller headliner. A season prior, the TUF 13 Finale averaged 1.8 million viewers. From seasons 10 through 14, the finales averaged 2.2 million viewers.

Of FX's eight UFC broadcasts to date (including UFC on FX shows and "UFC Prelims" specials), the TUF Live Finale ranked seventh.

TUF Live Finale ratings: Prelims on FUEL TV draw all-time best 165,000 viewers

This past weekend preliminary card for The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale drew 165,000 viewers and peaked with 241,000 on FUEL TV, MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today confirmed with industry sources.

That's a new all-time best for FUEL TV's preliminary-card broadcasts, which averaged 123,000 viewers over the first four events.

The TUF Live Finale prelims, which preceded the night's FX-televised main card, featured four fights spread out over two hours.

The Ultimate Fighter Live Finale took place June 1 at The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. In featured prelims, Daron Cruickshank earned a decision victory over "TUF: Live" cast mate Chris Tickle, and Myles Jury submitted Chris Saunders in the first round.

The TUF Live Finale prelims produced the most-watched Friday prime time in FUEL TV history. It was also the second-most watched Friday (all day) in the channel's history.

As MMAjunkie.com reported earlier today, the TUF Live Finale main card averaged 1 million FX viewers.

To date, FUEL TV has aired eight UFC events. The TUF Live Finale ranks fourth overall and No. 1 among preliminary-card broadcasts.

The UFC recently moved much of its live-event programming from Spike TV to FX and FUEL TV thanks to its seven-year deal with FOX. Although currently cable TV's lowest-rated cable station (in which ratings information is available), FUEL TV has increased from approximately 30 million homes to 36 million in the past few months due in large part to the new UFC programming.
Overall no surprises here, TUF was averaging about 1M every week so the Finale Main card was par for the course.

Interesting to see the Prelims do well though considering it was made up mostly of TUF fighters from the show.

Funny how it seems like the more people who tuned in the less entertaining the main event fight was, at least on PPVs. Jones vs Evans was basically one decent round than 4 cruise control rounds. Diaz vs Condit was a points fight/ track meet, Benson vs Edgar was 5 fast paced exciting rounds, and Aldo vs Mendes had one of the slicker finishes of the year.

Also out of a LHW title fight, a WW title fight, a LW title fight, and a FW title fight it was the FW fight which had the finish. And they say the smaller guys don't finish....
