Ok, I know this fight was long ago, but I was living in Mexico at the time and never got to see it until now. It was just shown on Unleashed. Ok, all I ever heard was this fight was so close and could have gone either way, but I didn't see that at all. The fight could have been scored two ways in my opinion and both times would have went to Forrest if I was a judge. This is the outcomes I saw...

F- 9 (10), 10, 10, 9, 10 = 48 (49)
R- 10 (9), 8, 9, 10, 9 = 46 (45)

I thought round 1 could have gone either way, because Griffin did more standing, but Rampage did come close with that one big punch. I'm not certain if it was enough to take the round for him which is why I have that round two possible scores. Otherwise I though the rest of the fight was pretty easy to decide who won each round.

Round two was all Griffin and it was so dominate that I scored it a 10/8 round for him. Rampage just couldn't do anything the whole round.

The following rounds were closer. Griffin took round 3 and 5 in my opinion and Rampage took 4 which to be totally honest could have gone to Griffin since he had two submission attempts, but Rampage was able to get out easily, so I gave the round to him, mainly because I felt bad for him


In the end I have no idea why there was so much controversy over this fight. How did you score this fight??

Haven't rewatched it in a while but I'm pretty sure I've only ever scored it 48-46 Forrest with him taking the 2nd 10-8 and then the 3rd and the 5th 10-9.

I never got where all the controversy came from either, except from Rampage's camp I suppose. I remember I got really pissed off with a lot of people over at MMAF about it though.

ok, there is now way you can score round 1 for forrest...no possible way

round 2 was imo the definition of a 10-8 round. it met the criteria of "damage and domination" that i heard a judge talk about on the fight network.

round 3 ...either way...i'd lean to forrest

round 4...complete tossup

round 5...forrest just looked busier and therefore won...

the very BEST Rampage could have gotten was a draw. w/ a 10-8 round and losing the 5th...he simply could not win that fight...

people bitching about this decision honestly just don't know how fights are scored. it wasn't controversial at all in my eyes.

I saw it the exact same way, and I agree with Aaron that there was nothing controversial about it as well.

It was a bunch of Page fans complaining and saying in order to win the belt you really have to beat him or something (like it was Page's to lose). They really just didn't want to realize that the UFC has a scoring system so therefor Forrest did beat him. It's like they thought it was the WWE and Forrest had to pin or submit Rampage otherwise it was a time limit draw and the champion regains his title.

I also thought the fight was pretty easy to call and wasn't anywhere near controversial.

The fight may have been a draw. But to tell you the truth, I could give a shit who won that fight. It was an awesome fight, my favorite of 08 and that uppercut in the first still gives me a boner.

i'll admit, I was one of those who thought page got robbed. i rewatched the fight later that week after a bunch of binge drinking to drown my sorrows away, and forrest was definitely the winner (damn that was hard to say). i guess when watching it live you get caught up with all the emotions and whatnot, because i really did believe he gor robbed at first.
