I just find this to be interesting to think about, seeing as BJ doesn't participate in ADCC events, despite being "the Prodigy".
How do you guys think he would fare? |

Probably get beaten in the first round. Maybe second depending on his match-ups.
If he grappled at Marcelo's weight, which I am assuming he would, that division is pretty stacked. So, I would say he would not fair all too well.

It's hard to say TBH, obviously I think he'd do well as his guard is notoriously hard to pass and his top game and control from the top is pretty legendary IMO.
TBH though I think the way his grappling game has evolved, it's clearly a lot more geared towards MMA than straight grappling nowadays, I think if this years ADCC showed us anything, it's that guys that focus on pure BJJ seemed to have a definitive edge over those dabbling in MMA as well. I'd love to see him compete one year, maybe when he retires from MMA?

i think hw would do ok , but the way the level of pure grappling that is out there now he would get wrecked by a marcelo garcia or pablo popovitch because the dedicate all there time to the one discipline wheras bj has had to be focused on all the aspects for mma , but its an interesting question for sure , i would love to see it

Not very well, IMO. Like it's been said he'd be competing at -77 and that division is pretty stacked with talented guys. Not only that but guys that are stronger than him.
I don't see him doing too well.

He wouldn't get embarrassed but he wouldn't win more than one round possibly. He has been away from pure jitz for too long.

I agree with everyone here i think he would do ok and wouldn't be embarrassed or blown out of the water but he clearly wouldn't be at the top. He hasn't focused on pure BJJ in years, however after he retires if he did go back to training pure BJJ i would think he would do pretty well. He may not ever be the strongest guy but BJJ isn't all about strength also his natural flexibility is something you can't prepare for and i'm sure it floors guys sometimes with the positions he can get into.

I actually think that BJ has the ability to do quite well at ADCC. Obviously the size disadvantage would be a huge issue, but he actually has better wrestling than most guys in ADCC, and his top control is still some of the best in the world... MMA or not.
If he gets in half guard, nobody can stop him from his far leg underhook/step over to mount move. He's just too unnaturally flexible for people to defend something like that. I don't think he'd win, but I can seriously see him placing.
