In our continuing series on the evolution of Jiu-Jitsu in Mixed Martial Arts we fast-forward a couple years from our last segment. When we checked in last time, Royce Gracie's reign of dominance over the MMA world was beginning to falter, and Royce decided to walk away from the sport.
In the two years between Gracie's departure, and the emergence of the next great Jiu-Jitsu players in the world of MMA, the sport went through a lot of flux. “I’ve made it very clear to Chuck. Very clear. It’s not about money, it’s not about this, that. Chuck is one of my good friends. Chuck (has) cemented his legacy in the UFC and in the fight game. I’m not even saying if he wins, unless he looks incredibly impressive (in Montreal) - I mean, he’s going to have to go out there and dazzle me, for me to want Chuck to still fight. I love him, and I don’t want to see what I saw in his last fight ever again.”
These comments were made by Dana White last week regarding Chuck Liddell’s future in the UFC.

“How the West is inadvertently holding back MMA’s Globalization.”
Ever since the emergence of mixed martial arts, there has been a hemispherical divide between the two major proponents of the sport; Asia and North America. When Zuffa devoured the slowly decomposing remnants of Dream Stage Entertainment’s PRIDE promotion in 2007, the balance of the MMA world completely shifted and Japanese fans and fighters alike were thrown into a state of obscurity.
